MCAT Score Calculator: How Your Score Affects Medical School Acceptance

This free MCAT score calculator shows exactly how many of 228 verified medical schools you'd be competitive at — and what impact raising your score would have on your school list. Enter your GPA and current MCAT, then set a target score to see the side-by-side difference.

How It Works

AesculaMD's verified database includes 228 accredited medical schools — 191 MD and 37 DO programs — with published median GPA and MCAT data for accepted applicants. Your stats are compared to each school's medians to place you in one of four tiers: at or above median (competitive), near median (~5 points below), reach (10+ below), or unlikely.

MCAT Score Ranges and Medical School Competitiveness

Frequently Asked Questions

What MCAT score do I need to get into medical school?
The average MCAT score for MD matriculants is 511–512 (out of 528). Most competitive schools have median accepted scores of 513–520. A score of 506–510 still opens meaningful options, particularly at state schools and DO programs. Scores below 500 make MD admission very difficult at most programs.
How much does raising my MCAT score improve my chances?
Each 3–5 point increase in MCAT score typically opens a new tier of schools. Going from 505 to 510 can double the number of schools where you're above the median. The impact is largest in the 505–515 range where most of the 228 schools cluster.
Should I retake the MCAT if I got a 508?
It depends on your GPA and target schools. A 508 with a 3.7+ GPA keeps many solid options open. If your goal schools have median MCATs of 512+, retaking makes sense — but only if you can diagnose specifically what went wrong and fix it. Retaking without changing your approach rarely produces large gains.
